My goal: to build a cabin in the woods, tend a garden, and write.
How I’ll get there: tbd, but I’d love your help!
Welcome to my new page and newsletter! (The current name is subject to change, but I like the simplicity of it for now.)
Many of you are carry-overs from my previous Panhandle Press publication I made with two friends, which sadly fizzled in mid-2020. From that creative maiden voyage, I learned how I want to structure my content, which means fairly little structure at all. In some posts you’ll get a short fiction story; some might include a few thoughts of mine corresponding to a book, article, movie, or podcast; some may be longer non-fiction articles, such as the naturality of a beaver dam (teaser). Whatever the topic, I hope you’ll gain insight into the way I perceive the world.
This fall I’ll be entering the Masters of Public Health program at Boise State University—but I also want to freelance write and teach others what I learn. Substack is how I plan to do both. Sharing my thoughts with friends and family has always been my greatest motivator towards consistent creativity, and I believe ideas are meant to be shared and discussed. Two inspirations for this newsletter of mine are “Brain Pickings” by Maria Popova and the “5-Bullet Friday” newsletter by Tim Ferris. I encourage you to check them out.
Here are some subjects you can expect to find:
Creative fiction writing
Non-fiction
Psychology
Health
Our elderly population
Nature/horticulture
Education
Economics
Substack operates as a medium for freelance writers to share their words, as well as profit off them by cutting out the need for a publisher. I’m very excited to build this community and am glad you are all here with me :)
P.S. You may have to drag this email from your promotions or another tab into your main inbox, but it seems to recognize them after that. And I’m new to this platform as well, so open to any and all feedback/suggestions!
