There are ducks across the river, which flows with unnatural pace, for this time of year. It's hard to conceive, in this gosh darn heat, that a snowpack still melts as if it's May. Shhh! Something just jumped— I only caught the sound, not the sight, but an urban angler might guess the spot right. That fast current fringe where a caddis, or maybe a hopper, on a night like this night, hitches a ride downstream. Those fish—mostly trout—have it all figured out. The ducks, and now a lone swallow, avoid the swiftness— refuge in the unusually green fronds. The river's edge eddies, water vortexing, further eroding that poor old riparian zone, and capturing little billowy balls released from the channel of late blooming Populus.
In case you didn’t know, Substack now has an app! Substack has been in the process of releasing their app for awhile, and it is now available for both iPhone and Android. I’m not as familiar with the reader perspective, but for some individuals the app may provide a smoother separation between the life, work, and leisure which clutter our inboxes. That’s all!
